Where will you be working?

At M Group Energy, we’re enabling the energy essential to support our lives. We provide an end-to-end service, delivering solutions in electricity transmission, distribution, renewable energy, EV, metering and home decarbonisation. This role will be within our Transmission Overhead Lines team. We design, build and commission substations at voltages up to and including 400kV. Our teams construct and maintain transmission lines and substations, ensuring the efficient and reliable delivery of electricity. This role will be covering National Grid projects across England, initially covering sites around Yorkshire & North / North East Lincolnshire - willingness to travel & stay away is essential!

What will you be doing?

  • As a Site Manager, your key responsibility will be the safe, efficient and compliant delivery of Transmission projects on site.
  • You’ll lead the day-to-day coordination of site teams, subcontractors, plant, materials, equipment and support services to ensure works are delivered to programme, specification, budget and client requirements.
  • You’ll take ownership of site-level Health, Safety, Environment and Quality, working closely with the Project Manager, project teams, clients and internal departments to resolve issues, maintain progress and drive strong operational performance without compromising safety or quality.
  • Lead day-to-day Health, Safety, Environment and Quality matters for site teams and subcontractors under their control.
  • Report SHEQ events promptly and support investigations in line with internal and client procedures.
  • Develop, review and maintain project documentation, including Construction Phase Plans, Quality Plans, Emergency Plans, RAMS and work instructions.
  • Provide technical support and practical delivery input to bids, tenders, design reviews and construction planning.
  • Liaise with Design, Engineering, Procurement, Wayleaves, clients and stakeholders to resolve technical and site delivery issues.
  • Produce and manage material requirements, schedules and site information to support planned works.
  • Manage supervisory resources, including Engineers, General Foremen and other site-based personnel, ensuring duties are clearly briefed and understood.
  • Plan, coordinate and manage labour, plant, materials, subcontractors and support services to deliver works safely, efficiently and compliantly.
  • Monitor progress against programme and report progress, productivity, risks and constraints to the Project Manager and Project Planner.
  • Ensure subcontractors are suitably supervised and working in line with RAMS, permits, drawings, specifications and client requirements.
  • Coordinate access, logistics, temporary works, permits, certificates and site arrangements to maintain safe and efficient progress.
  • Chair regular site meetings with staff, subcontractors and relevant stakeholders to review safety, progress, quality and delivery priorities.
  • Escalate unresolved operational, safety, quality, resource or stakeholder issues to the Project Manager or appropriate support function.
  • Manage and support reporting staff, including day-to-day supervision, welfare matters, timesheets, expenses and performance-related issues, with Human Resources support where required.
  • Promote company values, expected behaviours and a culture of safety, integrity, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication across site teams, project teams, support functions and the wider business.
  • Comply with company policies, procedures and management systems, including health and safety, quality and environmental requirements.

What you’ll bring

  • An extensive knowledge of construction methodologies within the electricity transmission industry.
  • Competency to work OHL projects - 132kV to 400kV.
  • Knowledge of current legislation relating to health, safety and the environment.
  • Skill in organising resources and establishing priorities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work within budget and to programme timescales.
  • Ability to work within a team environment including clients, designers, H&S advisers, site staff, quantity surveyors and estimators.
  • IT literate, specifically in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Project and Excel.
  • Appropriate working knowledge of client standards.
  • Qualified to a suitable level of construction or previous experience in delivering OHL projects.
  • PCSM knowledge.
  • TWC qualification.
  • NEBOSH Construction & Environmental qualifications.
  • HSG47 Impressed Voltage training.
  • CDM Regulations.
  • Waste Management.
  • Full UK driving licence happy to travel and stay away where necessary.
