Where will you be working?
Aviation - Our Aviation team works across a wide range of specialist civil, mechanical and electrical engineering works including major international airports, regional airports and RAF airfields.
What will you be doing?
Your responsibilities will include the management of the Divisions estimating programme and allocation of resource to each opportunity, whilst ensuring the accuracy and timely submission of all bids in line with company procedure. Interfacing with the Divisional Directors, Bid Managers and our commercial and operations teams. Duties include:
- Subject matter expert on pricing civil engineering schemes within the Aviation and defence sectors
- Support, mentor, coach and guide Estimators and Estimating Assistants.
- Act as primary pricing resource for all strategic key bids in area of specialism.
- Prepare estimates and priced submissions that meet project goals and determine the total cost of materials, equipment, labour, and plant for each tender ensuring the net price for the works is accurate.
- Co-ordinate all pricing elements of complex multi-disciplinary bids evaluating interfaces and driving best value in optimum use of resources to provide competitive pricing solutions.
- Prepare tender summaries including assessment of preliminaries for the project.
- Collaborate and obtain commercial advice with respect to bonds, insurances, warranties etc.
- Review and analyse tender documentation and specifications and attend site visits when required.
- Collate all tender activity and communications with suppliers, maintaining records and keeping electronic data management system up to date in line with Company procedures and Work Winning process.
- Identify risks and opportunities and present these at tender strategy and adjudication meetings ensuring commercial element of the bid has a fully transparent evaluation of risks and opportunities.
- Ensure effective co-ordination of trades and disciplines and efficient balance of resources has been considered and accounted for within prepared estimates.
- Collaborate with Submission Technical team and Operational team to input into the development of detailed methodology and programme for the tendered works.
- Explore innovative and alternative solutions to bids in addition to the compliant offering to give the organisation an advantage through the tendering process and evaluation.
- Prepare, present, and justify the tender price at adjudications, mid-bid, and handover meetings.
- Implement the requirements of the Company Management System (CMS), as applicable to the business operations.
- Manage tender and post-tender clarifications from the client for all pricing elements.
What you’ll bring
You will have a demonstrable knowledge of CESSM, SMM7 and of Construction Contracts such as NR, NEC, and ICC forms. You should be proficient in the use of Excel and estimating software such as Causeway. Due to the complexity of projects that we work on, we are keen to receive applications from candidates who are familiar with tendering Civil Engineering contracts within the transport infrastructure sector, including framework experience. Individuals will have a technical understanding of Civil Engineering processes and will have a history of successfully winning a variety of projects. Line management experience is essential.
