About The Role
Purpose of role
The Field Manager plays a key role within the field-based Smart Maintenance team, which is delivered on behalf of our clients. This role will be responsible for the support, management and motivation of a team of engineers (up to 30) on a day-to-day basis. The Field Manager takes ownership of team performance and financial objectives, analysing and ensuring continuous business improvements are implemented to achieve business objectives.
The Field Manager role within M Group is responsible for a section of the field-based workforce, based on geographical location throughout the UK. The role holders will manage their own area and hold accountability and ownership for all day-to-day operations/responsibilities of managing people and business KPIs. The role requires an individual to be able to work autonomously but to also ensure full co-ordination with other teams/regions/support functions, and alignment with the strategy and vision of the business. You will operate as an individual cost centre, assuming full responsibility for all operational day to day financial decisions and must account for your areas performance to the Service Delivery Manager, Head of Meter Health, and ultimately, to the Director of Operations.
The Field Manager role requires leadership skills with the ability to lead a team of people and endorse our company values and vision across our people within operations. Field Managers will be a pivotal role within Smart Maintenance in creating an effective work environment, where people are valued and collaborated with to effectively deliver our objectives. It will also be ensuring we create strong safety culture within our standard working practices and teams given the nature of the activities we carry out for our clients customers and business reputation. The role is home based and you will be allocated a standard company car.
Key responsibilities
- Overall accountability and responsibility for the operational running, financial performance, and management of your team.
- People management responsibility for your team including ensuring continuous improvement, motivation and performance.
- Implementation of KPIs and measurement to agreed targets.
- Accountable for the efficient and appropriate distribution of work across your area
- Management of individual performance and implementation of performance improvement plans.
- Coaching at an individual level where performance or productivity requires this.
- Responsible for incident investigation within your area, ensuring they are closed down within agreed SLAs and providing evidence based root cause.
- Management of disciplinary and grievance matters.
- Accountable for your team communications, ensuring all updates are received, understood and enacted.
- Responsible for Safety, ensuring the necessary tools, PPE and other equipment as necessary are available and accounted for.
- Responsible for the quality of data, the resulting MI and solutions to issues uncovered.
- Work closely with other Field Managers/Business support functions to ensure continuous improvement.
- Responsible for complaints within your area, ensuring they are closed down within agreed SLAs
Specialist qualifications, skills and experience
- Previous experience managing a field based workforce, preferably within a energy or similar sector.
- Analytical and data driven, able to interpret MI and enact accordingly.
- Strong, proven successful operational management experience.
- Authoritative and strong character with people management/leadership skills.
- Proven experience managing a dispersed team
- Good understanding of the wider implications of success or failure on the business.
- Good communication skills
- IT skills, particularly all Microsoft applications i.e Excel and Powerpoint
- Leadership/Management experience
- IOSH Managing Safely
