We are looking for an experienced Assistant Accountant to join our finance team in a busy construction business. This role will support the Finance & Office Manager and play a key part in maintaining accurate financial records across multiple companies, completing reconciliations, supporting month-end processes and helping ensure strong financial control across the business. This role would suit someone who is confident completing reconciliations and investigating discrepancies rather than purely processing transactions. Working within a collaborative SME environment, the successful candidate will take a hands-on approach and support colleagues across the business, assisting with wider business activities where required.
Key Responsibilities- Bank, credit card and control account reconciliations
- Support month-end processes and management accounts
- Investigate and resolve financial discrepancies
- Input supplier invoices and expenses into Sage 50 Accounts
- Raise and post sales invoices
- Manage credit control and chase outstanding invoices
- Resolve supplier and customer queries
- Assist with VAT returns
- Support administration of CIS returns
- Maintain accurate subcontractor records
- Support financial reporting and analysis
- Assist with preparation of year-end information for external accountants
- Identify opportunities to improve finance processes and systems
- Assist with finance system improvements and implementations
- Previous experience in an accounting or finance role
- Strong experience using Sage 50 Accounts
- Experience completing account reconciliations
- Construction industry experience
- Experience working within an SME environment
- AAT qualified, part-qualified or qualified by experience
- Competitive salary (£30,000-£35,000 D.O.E)
