This role is for a Sous Chef in Jewish Care catering, working in a high-spec kitchen with top-quality equipment and an established, high-performing team. Sociable hours aim to support a good work-life balance, with opportunities to contribute to service users and residents through high-quality meals and catering. Campus locations provide a positive working environment with a diverse team. You will also support catering for various events. Full training is provided if you are not familiar with Kosher kitchen practices.

This post is 35 hours per week, 5 days out of 7, and may include some weekends. Shifts are either 7am to 2.30pm or 11.30am to 7pm.

Responsibilities:

  • Delivering an excellent service to customers, creating an inviting and pleasant environment.
  • Ensuring all food produced is to the agreed standard, developing innovative approaches to meet market trends, cultural requirements and Kashrut laws.
  • Monitoring, meeting, and recording all food hygiene and Health & Safety practices in line with organisational policies and current legislation.
  • Working within the agreed budget, administering unit controls in line with budget, and seeking ways to improve quality and cost effectiveness of the service.
  • Leading, motivating, and encouraging team building to achieve qualitative outcomes and exceed customer service expectations.
  • Deputising for the Head Chef in their absence and complying with their responsibilities.

Requirements / Qualifications:

  • Experience in a busy kitchen environment, able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Appropriate supervisory experience and relevant qualifications for safe delivery of Food & Hygiene or Catering Services.
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3.
  • Energetic, proactive attitude with ability to work to deadlines and budgetary requirements.
  • Understanding the challenge and sensitivity needed to care for vulnerable people.
