Overview
This role supports the mission of Lyward Colley Workshops (LCW CIC) by providing targeted, high-impact mentoring and life skills support to young people with SEND or those disengaged from education. The post-holder will lead and deliver LCW\'s life skills and post-16 provision, enabling young people to progress into further education, training, or employment (ETE). They will be expected to support each young person in working toward their individual goals, including those outlined in EHCPs where applicable and ensure all provision is tailored to need, ability, and future aspirations.
The role must be carried out in line with the core values, beliefs, and social aims of LCW CIC, promoting inclusion, empowerment, personal development, and long-term positive outcomes for young people.

We\'re looking for a passionate and adaptable Life Skills Mentor to join our team. This is a flexible role working with young people who require personalised, hands-on support to build the skills they need for life beyond education. Whether employed or self-employed, you\'ll play a central role in helping learners gain confidence, independence, and real-world experience.
What you\'ll do:
- Design and deliver a tailored life skills curriculum for the academic year, adapting content to suit each student\'s individual needs and progression.
- Support learners in overcoming barriers to education by focusing on practical, everyday life skills from communication and budgeting to travel, training and social skills.
Provide 1:1 mentoring, responding to each student\'s social, emotional and educational development.
- Assist with work experience placements, helping young people prepare for and engage in real-world environments.
- Explore and support post-16 pathways, including college, apprenticeships, or supported internships.

- Full UK driving license
Duties
- Deliver person-centred 1:1 and group mentoring in line with LCW\'s relational, trauma-informed, and youth-led approach.
- Support personal development in communication, independence, confidence, and resilience.
- Build trusted relationships that model respect, safety, and consistency.
Work closely with other workshop mentors and collaborate with tutoring service to embed learning, reinforce key life skills, and create a consistent, supportive environment for each young person.
Identify opportunities for academic learning, liaising closely with LCW,s Tutoring service.
Requirements
- Experience working with children or in youth work settings is essential.
- Background in special education or related fields is highly desirable.
- Strong mentoring skills with the ability to inspire and motivate young people.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to educate effectively while being patient and understanding.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and conflict resolution.
- Commitment to creating an inclusive environment for all youth.
