Welfare Assistant

17.5 hours per week | Term time plus 5 INSET days | Foundation Living Wage currently £13.45 per hour

We are looking for a reliable and committed Welfare Assistant to support the safety, welfare and good conduct of our students during busy break and lunchtime periods.

Working alongside duty staff, the Catering Team and other school colleagues, you will help supervise students and promote positive behaviour while contributing to a safe, welcoming and enjoyable environment.

A day in your role could see you:

1. Supervising students during break and lunchtime, both inside school and in outside student areas.
2. Helping to manage student queues and encouraging students to behave appropriately.
3. Building positive and respectful relationships with students.
4. Promoting and reinforcing the school's expectations around behaviour, health and safety and student welfare.
5. Helping students to sit appropriately, clear away after themselves and maintain acceptable standards of behaviour.
6. Helping to maintain a safe and pleasant environment by responding to spillages and picking up litter when necessary.

What we're looking for

You’ll be approachable and confident in establishing positive and respectful relationships with secondary school‑age students. You’ll be able to reinforce appropriate standards of behaviour consistently and support the safety, welfare and good conduct of students during busy break and lunchtime periods.

You’ll be a positive team player who can work effectively with colleagues, while also being able to use your own initiative and respond calmly and appropriately to everyday situations involving students.

Previous experience of working with or supervising children or young people would be helpful, as would and an awareness of safeguarding responsibilities, but these are not essential as training will be given.

Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who takes pride in helping to create a safe, clean and positive environment and who understands the importance of providing appropriate supervision and support for young people during the school day.
