About Lypo: At Lypo, we are redefining how chemicals are made, developing programmable small molecule manufacture using waste-derived feedstocks. This technology leverages the nature of and plasticity of microbial metabolism, combined with AI-engineered enzymes, to create sustainable, cost-effective ingredients for the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries. Lypo is looking to grow rapidly, we are building a multidiscipline team with a culture of cross-pollination and shared learning.
The Role: We are seeking an experienced biotechnologist to be our Lab Manager, who will be the critical link between operational excellence and safe laboratory practices. We value an interdisciplinary mindset; you must be eager to contribute to a multi-discipline environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety & Document Management: Management of COSHH and Risk Assessment documentation. Draft, update, and organize Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Act as the primary point of contact for employee safety and regulatory compliance.
- Database Oversight: Establish databases for laboratory datasets, molecular biology and chemical management. Oversee database entries and provide training for any team-members for database entry.
- Procurement & Equipment Maintenance: Act as the central point of contact for ordering lab consumables and equipment maintenance contracts. Manage vendor relationships, and maintain essential stock levels to prevent research downtime.
- Technical Advice: Provide scientific advice and troubleshooting where possible.
- Mentorship: Support the development of others across disciplines, skillsets and levels, with regular participation in skills training and problem sessions.
- Workspace Management: Ensure the team maintains an organised environment, this includes the laboratory and online workspaces.
Experience & Requirements:
Professional Experience: >5 years experience in biotechnology, including >2 years experience managing a laboratory and online databases. Track record of working within a high-performing team.
Required Skillset: Demonstrated expertise managing safety and technical documentation, ensuring teammates complete necessary training, and experience in creating and maintaining databases for molecular biology and analytical outputs.
Nice-to-Have: Working knowledge of Molecular biology, Chemical Analysis, Enzyme Engineering or Bioinformatics. Experience using the Benchling ecosystem. Any experience working outside of science.
Salary & Flexibility:
Flexibility: 3 days per week (1.5 days on-site)
