Commitment: Full-Time In-Person Requirement: 3-4 days on-site

About Lypo: At Lypo, we are redefining how chemicals are made, developing programmable small molecule manufacture using waste-derived feedstocks. This technology leverages the nature and plasticity of microbial metabolism, combined with AI-engineered enzymes, to create sustainable, cost-effective ingredients for the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries. Lypo is looking to grow rapidly, we are building a multidiscipline team with a culture of cross-pollination and shared learning.

The Role: We are seeking a highly experienced Analytical Scientist to develop and implement high-throughput methods for chemical analysis (GC-MS, HPLC) of complex biomolecules. You will be critical to the team, ensuring datasets can be gathered and implemented quickly for AI training. We value an interdisciplinary mindset; whatever your background, you must be eager to work across traditional boundaries to solve challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Chemical Analyses: Develop and implement high-throughput analytical methods. (e.g., GC-MS, HPLC).
  • Data throughput: Maintain high-level of sample processing across several analytical machines.
  • Biomolecule Characterisation: Method development for isolation of complex isomers, including derivatisation and further analysis by NMR.
  • Equipment Care: Develop and implement S.O.P.s for analytical equipment care and upkeep.
  • Reporting & Communication: Communicate effectively with fortnightly research updates and regular group meetings.
  • Mentorship: Support the development of others across disciplines, skillsets and levels, with regular participation in skills training and problem sessions.
  • Workspace Management: Maintain a clean and organised environment, this includes the laboratory and online workspaces. Data should be organised, along with regular labbook entries.

Experience & Requirements:

Professional Experience: PhD in Chemistry + 2 years Industry Experience, or MSc in Chemistry + 5 years industry experience.

Required Skillset: Deep expertise in chemical analysis of complex molecules, with solid understanding of chromatography and analytical techniques (GC-MS, HPLC and NMR).

Nice-to-Have: Experience with chemical synthesis. Any experience working outside of science.

Salary & Flexibility:

Salary: £45,000 - £55,000, 1 year contract

Flexibility: Full-time role with the option to work from home 1-2 days per week.
