We are looking for a Solicitor/FCILEx or equivalent to work within the Contract Resolution Group, which forms part of our Civil Litigation Division. You will run a caseload of a wide variety of Civil Litigation cases (no personal injury) mainly but not exclusively arising from contractual disputes. Your caseload would be made up of Claimant and Defendant claims, including but not limited to: Commercial Contracts, Consumer Contracts, Misrepresentation, Professional Negligence, and Construction.
The work sources include LEI and private instruction. Most of the work involves acting for Claimants referred by Legal Expense Insurers, but the Group also deals with a significant number of commercial and private instructions where we act for Claimants and Defendants and where the work is often complex and high value. The work is varied and challenging but rewarding and the team places a high value on mutual support and co-operation.
The Group is led by Jonathan Calverley (Technical Partner) and Cat Bambra (Operational Partner), ably supported by senior lawyers who together are committed to supporting, educating and developing staff.
Home working: This role has the option of being part office working and part remote working, or fully remote working. Our Team currently work out of our Leeds, Cardiff or Bristol offices so ideally you will be able to attend internal meetings as and when required.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Managing a caseload of mainly fast, intermediate and multi track cases dealing with contract disputes arising from the sale of goods and services, building contracts, professional negligence etc.
- Dealing with clients on the phone and face to face
- Using our case management system to progress the files
- Billing and invoicing
Skills/Competencies required:
- Experience of advising individual and commercial clients in contract based disputes, in both Fast and Multi-Track claims;
- Strong organisational skills;
- Pragmatic approach to solving problems;
- Client focused approach;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Ability and knowledge of working with a case management system;
- IT literate (working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel).
Experience required:
Successful candidates will have a good legal knowledge, and able to demonstrate problem solving skills. It is essential the successful candidate will have experience of handling their own caseload. Working to tight deadlines is also essential. Experience of dealing with insurance funded clients is desirable.
Education:
Qualified Solicitor (LLB/CILEX Route) CILEx (Qualified to FCILEx level); OR Equivalent experience.
