Responsibilities and Duties:
- Advise clients on legal options and rights in family law matters.
- Represent clients in family court for divorce and finance proceedings, children act proceedings, spousal maintenance, Family Law Act applications and other hearings.
- Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents such as prenuptial agreements, consent orders and draft court orders.
- Mediate between parties to reach amicable settlements outside of court when possible.
- Conduct legal research and stay updated on relevant case laws and statutory changes.
- Work with psychologists, social workers, and other experts in children act proceedings or family assessments.
- Maintain client confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards.
Professional Development:
- Stay up to date with changes in family law and developments in case law and legislation.
- Participate in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities to maintain and expand your legal knowledge and expertise.
- Take responsibility for personal and professional development, including attending training and seminars as required by SRA/CILEX and the firm.
Experience Required:
- Essential Experience: Solid experience in managing a caseload of family law matters, including contested and uncontested divorce, child arrangement disputes, and financial settlements.
- Strong experience in drafting legal documents such as divorce petitions, consent orders, and settlement agreements.
- Familiarity with the Family Court system, including attending hearings and advising clients on court proceedings.
- Knowledge of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes, such as mediation and collaborative law, would be an advantage.
Client Care and Communication Skills:
- Excellent client management skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts in a clear and concise manner.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a client-focused approach to service delivery.
- Ability to work effectively with clients in emotionally challenging situations.
