My client specialises in innovative solutions for damaged, redundant and outdated machinery and equipment. The Mechanical Design Engineer will ideally have the following attributes:

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Integrated Mechanical & Electrical Engineering, or a similar STEM subject, or equivalent industry experience
  • 3-5 years' experience in product design, mechanical engineering or a similar environment
  • Strong Autodesk Inventor or similar CAD experience, including 3D modelling, drawings and BOMs
  • Experience designing moving parts and small to medium-sized machinery
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design, manufacturing techniques and Design for Manufacture
  • Experience with FEA, structural calculations and mechanical design analysis
  • Knowledge of rapid prototyping and product development
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to contribute ideas within a design team
  • Ability to manage your own workload and deliver projects to deadlines
  • A creative and innovative approach with a willingness to develop new skills

The Mechanical Design Engineer role will involve:

  • Creating 3D models, fabrication drawings and BOMs using Autodesk Inventor or similar CAD software
  • Supporting and leading product design improvements from concept through to implementation
  • Analysing product failures and using findings to improve future designs
  • Developing conceptual design solutions for the utilities sector
  • Carrying out FEA, structural calculations and other mechanical design activities
  • Applying prototyping and Design for Manufacture principles throughout product development
  • Producing technical reports covering design rationale, testing results, conclusions and recommendations
  • Occasionally travelling within the UK to observe and report on product field trials
  • Attending exhibitions and industry meetings to develop sector knowledge and identify new opportunities
  • Managing your own workload and ensuring projects are delivered on time
