Senior Civil Engineer

Hertfordshire (Hybrid Working Available)

A well-established, multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to join its growing Civil Engineering team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated Civil Engineer looking to take on a senior role within a collaborative consultancy. you'll play a key part in delivering a diverse range of infrastructure and development projects while working closely with senior leadership to support the continued growth of the business.

The successful candidate will have a strong consultancy background, excellent technical ability, and the confidence to manage projects, build client relationships and mentor junior team members. you'll be involved throughout the project life cycle, from initial feasibility through to detailed design and construction support.

The Role you'll be responsible for delivering a wide variety of civil engineering projects across sectors including residential, commercial, industrial, education, healthcare and mixed-use developments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare site appraisals, feasibility studies and provide pre-planning advice.
  • Support development masterplanning and site due diligence.
  • Produce Flood Risk Assessments and Sustainable Drainage (Su DS) strategies.
  • Design civil engineering infrastructure including drainage, underground utilities and external works.
  • Deliver highway design projects, including Section 38 and Section 278 works.
  • Liaise with statutory authorities regarding sewer adoptions, requisitions and technical approvals.
  • Undertake earthworks design, ground modelling and cut-and-fill assessments.
  • Carry out contract administration, construction support and site inspections where required.
  • Manage projects to programme and budget while maintaining high technical standards.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships and contribute to business development.

About You

Essential

  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years experience within a Civil Engineering consultancy.
  • Strong technical design experience across infrastructure and drainage projects.
  • Advanced proficiency with Civil 3D and FLOW (or equivalent drainage modelling software).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commercial awareness with the ability to manage projects effectively.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively within a collaborative team.

Desirable

  • Chartered Engineer status (or actively working towards Chartership).
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers.
  • Strong client-facing skills and experience managing stakeholder relationships.
  • Knowledge of current UK design standards and planning processes.
