The Industrial Control Systems (ICS) 2nd Engineer supports the Lead ICS Engineer in maintaining and improving the plant’s industrial control systems and cyber security framework. The role ensures operational technology (OT) systems operate safely, reliably, and in compliance with regulatory and company requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and develop expertise in plant OT systems, including DCS, PLC, SCADA, and server-based control systems (e.g., Siemens S7, ABB 800xA, GE MkVI/MkVIe, T3000).
- Support OT lifecycle management, including upgrades, obsolescence planning, and spare parts strategy.
- Assist in implementing and maintaining industrial cyber security controls in line with regulatory and industry standards.
- Plan and support Control & Instrumentation (C&I) maintenance and projects, particularly during plant outages.
- Investigate plant issues and provide fault finding and technical support to operations and maintenance teams.
- Support alarm management, risk assessments, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Coordinate engineering changes through Management of Change (MoC) processes.
- Work with contractors, procurement, and internal teams to deliver projects safely, on time, and within budget.
Skills & Experience
- HND (or equivalent) in Control & Instrumentation, Electrical, or Electronic Engineering.
- Experience with industrial OT systems, PLC/DCS/SCADA environments, and networking concepts.
- Understanding of industrial cyber security and OT risk management.
- Strong fault-finding, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate across engineering, operations, and IT teams.
Desirable
- Knowledge of ISA/IEC 62443, NIS Directive, or NCSC Cyber Assessment Framework.
- Experience with OT security solutions, alarm management, and functional safety.
- NEBOSH or IOSH health and safety qualification.
