A well-established control systems engineering and manufacturing organisation is seeking a Control Systems Project Engineer to support continued growth. This role suits engineers with a strong grounding in automation and control systems, who value precision, accountability, and end-to-end project ownership.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for delivering control and automation projects from concept through to commissioning, working across multiple industrial sectors and collaborating with internal teams, clients, and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities- Lead automation and control projects from initial concept through design, manufacture, installation, and commissioning
- Design and engineer motor control and automated systems
- Produce Functional Design Specifications (FDS) and associated technical documentation
- Prepare accurate quotations and cost estimates for medium to large-scale projects
- Specify and design hardware solutions compliant with relevant standards (UKCA, CE, UL)
- Electrical schematics
- Control panel enclosure layouts
- Backplate layouts
- Design, program, configure, and test PLC and HMI systems
- Act as a technical point of contact for clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders
- Lead system integration and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) activities
- Carry out general project engineering and project management duties
- Work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-project environment
- Proven experience working with PLC-based and relay-based control systems
- Strong background in PLC, SCADA, and HMI system design and programming
- Experience with industrial communication protocols such as EtherNet/IP, Modbus (TCP/RTU)
- Proficiency in Ladder Logic and Structured Text programming
- Ability to read and create P&IDs
- Knowledge of Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
- Experience with servo motion control systems
- Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding capability
- Hands-on commissioning experience across control systems
- Knowledge of pneumatics is advantageous but not essential
- HNC / HND in Electrical, Electronic, or Control Engineering (or equivalent practical experience)
- Excellent technical writing, presentation, and communication skills
- Strong team player with a customer-focused mindset
- Able to manage multiple projects concurrently with strong organisational skills
- High standard of written and spoken English
- Willingness to travel and work out of hours when required
- Open to undertaking additional training or certifications as needed
