Senior Test Technician Optical Components Location: Southwest England (Devon) About Us We are a world leader in optical designing, testing, and manufacturing. As experts in the technology of light, we work with customers to provide optical systems, assemblies, and components for demanding applications. The Role We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Test Technician to join our team. You will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and reliability of our optical components used in fibre-optic systems. The position involves testing, analysis, and troubleshooting of optical components to meet required specifications and requirements. Key Responsibilities Testing and Measurement Perform detailed testing of optical components (lasers, photodiodes, modulators, optical amplifiers) using advanced equipment Conduct fibre-optic testing including insertion loss and polarisation mode dispersion Utilize precision instruments to measure optical parameters Data Analysis & Reporting Analyze test data to identify trends, inconsistencies, and potential issues Compile comprehensive test reports and present findings Provide recommendations for process improvements Troubleshooting & Problem Solving Diagnose and troubleshoot issues related to optical component performance Collaborate with R&D and manufacturing teams to resolve technical issues and optimize product designs Required Qualifications and Skills Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Physics, or related field (or equivalent work experience) Proficiency with optical testing equipment (OTDRs, optical spectrum analyzers, power meters) Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail Strong problem-solving abilities Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications Strong communication skills (written and verbal) Experience with data analysis software and report generation Desirable Qualifications (Not Essential) Certification in fibre-optic testing (e.g., FOA CFOT) Familiarity with industry standards (ITU-T, IEEE, Telcordia) Experience with automated testing systems Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and quality control principles Benefits 25 days holiday plus bank holidays Competitive company pension contribution Company bonus scheme Health Cash Plan Opportunities for professional development and training If you’re passionate about optical technology and have a keen eye for detail, we want to hear from you!
