We are recruiting for a Tree Officer to play a key role in protecting and managing the borough's trees within planning and conservation environments. This is a hands-on, professional role combining site inspections, planning advice, and enforcement ideal for someone with strong arboricultural knowledge and local authority experience.
What you'll be doing:
- Assess applications for works to protected trees and within conservation areas
- Manage and review Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs)
- Advise planning teams, officers, and councillors on arboricultural impact
- Lead enforcement on unauthorised tree works
- Represent the council in appeals and legal proceedings
- Carry out site inspections across Calderdale
- Liaise with external bodies including the Forestry Commission
What we're looking for:
- HNC in Arboriculture (essential)
- Strong knowledge of planning and tree protection legislation
- Experience inspecting and assessing trees/woodlands
- Ability to produce clear reports and recommendations
- Confident communicator across stakeholders
- Full UK driving licence + access to a vehicle
