Hours: Average 37 hours per week

Contract: Temporary

Working Pattern: Monday–Sunday according to rota/service requirements

We are recruiting an experienced Tree / Environmental Team Leader to supervise a frontline operational team delivering grounds, environmental and green-space services. This is a hands-on supervisory role requiring someone who can effectively manage staff, vehicles, plant and daily workloads while ensuring high standards of service, productivity and Health & Safety.

The Role

You will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision and deployment of operational staff, including permanent, temporary and agency workers. You will plan workloads, allocate resources, monitor performance and ensure work is completed safely and efficiently. Responsibilities will include:

  • Supervising and coordinating frontline operational teams.
  • Planning daily and weekly workloads.
  • Allocating staff, vehicles, plant and equipment.
  • Monitoring productivity, quality and performance.
  • Providing on-the-job training, instruction and support.
  • Ensuring vehicles, machinery and equipment are maintained and safe to use.
  • Completing and maintaining operational records.
  • Managing Health & Safety requirements, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • Responding to customer enquiries and operational issues.
  • Supporting service improvements and changes.
  • Ensuring resources are deployed effectively and provide value for money.

The wider service includes grounds maintenance activities such as grass maintenance, tractor operations, hedge maintenance, horticultural features and sports pitch/fine-turf work.

Essential Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • Previous supervisory/team leader experience within grounds maintenance, environmental services, waste, street cleansing or a similar operational environment.
  • Experience managing and deploying frontline staff.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety, risk assessments and safe working practices.
  • Experience operating or supervising the use of vehicles, plant and machinery.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage workloads and achieve operational targets.
  • IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
  • Full driving licence – minimum Category C1.
  • Current Driver CPC / DQC card.
  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent practical experience within an environmental discipline at supervisory level.

The successful candidate must be prepared to work flexibly according to service requirements, which can include weekends and Bank Holidays. A DVLA check will be required before commencing the role.
