Wakefield (WF1) £26.62 per hour Contract until 28 August 2026 Hybrid / Flexible Working Lynx Employment Services are recruiting for an experienced Senior Commercial Lead – Commercial Policy & Data to join Wakefield Council's Commercial Team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping and embedding commercial best practice across the Council. Working at a strategic level, you will lead the development of commercial policies, procedures, governance frameworks, training programmes and data-driven insights that support value for money, transparency and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of commercial policies, procedures, documentation and strategies.
  • Design and deliver commercial training and guidance for Council officers and elected members.
  • Drive commercial excellence and best practice across the organisation.
  • Develop and oversee commercial governance frameworks and contract management processes.
  • Lead the use of commercial data, analytics and performance reporting to support decision-making.
  • Monitor legislative and market developments, ensuring policies remain compliant and forward-thinking.
  • Promote social value, innovation and continuous improvement throughout commercial activities.
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers and external partners.

About You

You will be an experienced commercial or procurement professional with:

  • Expert knowledge of public sector procurement legislation, including the Procurement Act 2023 and Public Contracts Regulations.
  • Experience developing commercial strategies, policies, governance frameworks and supporting documentation.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
  • Experience coaching, developing and leading others.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret and present complex data.
  • Experience using commercial data and performance metrics to drive improvements.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • CIPS Level 6 qualification (or equivalent experience).
