We are recruiting a Building Control Surveyor to support the effective delivery of building control services in the Wakefield area. The role involves managing building regulation applications, carrying out plan appraisals and site inspections, and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, agreed targets, and quality standards. This is a hybrid role. Salary range depends on experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of development sites, including low to medium-risk schemes, and assist with high-risk buildings under supervision, in line with validated competence.
- Process building regulation applications in accordance with agreed targets and timescales.
- Carry out plan appraisals and site inspections, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
- Ensure compliance with Building Regulations and relevant legislation.
- Liaise with applicants, agents, consultees, elected members, and the general public to resolve queries and negotiate technical solutions.
- Support the continuous improvement and implementation of the Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring procedures are consistently followed.
- Promote professional standards and support the development and registration of surveyors within the building control team.
Essential Requirements
- Relevant degree in Building Control, Building Surveying, or a related discipline.
- Membership of RICS, CABE, or equivalent professional body.
- Substantial post-qualifying experience (or equivalent).
- Evidence of relevant CPD recorded with a professional body.
- Willingness to undertake and complete LABC Level 4, 5, and 5a training.
- Commitment to completing the Building Safety Regulator validation process.
- Ability to work independently within defined competencies, with strong organisational and communication skills.
Desirable
- Chartered status with RICS, CABE, or similar.
- Experience working within a local authority building control environment.
