We are recruiting for an experienced Street Scene Operations Manager to provide urgent management cover within a busy local authority Street Scene service. This is an excellent opportunity for a manager with experience in grounds maintenance, street cleansing or environmental services, ideally gained within local government.
Location: Doncaster, DN5
Contract Details:
- Start Date: 17 August 2026
- End Date: 27 November 2026
- 37 hours per week
- 9:00am - 5:00pm
- Flexible working pattern available: Monday to Friday, or Four-day week (e.g. Monday-Thursday or Tuesday-Friday), subject to business needs
- Some additional work may be required to meet operational demands
Pay: £23.75 - £26.78 per hour PAYE, plus holiday pay. The rate may be increased for candidates who fully meet the experience and skills required.
The Role: You will lead the day-to-day management of Street Scene services, ensuring high-quality delivery of grounds maintenance and street cleansing operations while maintaining service standards and performance targets. Responsibilities include:
- Managing the day-to-day delivery of Street Scene services, including grounds maintenance and street cleansing
- Leading and supervising operational teams, setting performance expectations and supporting staff development
- Planning and coordinating staff, vehicles and equipment to maximise service delivery
- Managing operational budgets and monitoring expenditure
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation, environmental regulations and council policies
- Responding to service requests, complaints and enquiries
- Working closely with councillors, community groups and other council departments
- Driving service improvements and ensuring performance targets are achieved.
About You: The successful candidate will have:
- Proven management experience within Street Scene, Grounds Maintenance, Street Cleansing or Environmental Services
- Experience working within a local authority or similar public sector environment
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Experience managing operational budgets and resources
- Excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills
- Good IT skills and experience using operational management systems
- A sound understanding of health and safety legislation and operational compliance
- A full UK driving licence and the ability to travel as required.
