We are seeking a proactive Health and Safety Compliance Officer to support safe, compliant waste and recycling operations. This is a hands-on role involving site inspections, operational monitoring, and working closely with frontline teams to promote a strong safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with UK H&S legislation (HASAWA, COSHH, RIDDOR)
- Develop and review risk assessments and Safe Systems of Work
- Conduct depot inspections, ride-alongs, and operational audits
- Use CCTV to monitor safety, investigate incidents, and identify improvements (GDPR compliant)
- Investigate accidents and implement corrective actions
- Deliver toolbox talks and support staff training
- Monitor vehicle and equipment safety, including high-risk activities
- Oversee contractor H&S compliance
- Maintain records, analyse trends, and report on performance
- Promote positive safety behaviours across teams
Requirements
Essential:
- Experience in a health & safety role within a high-risk environment
- Knowledge of UK H&S legislation
- Experience with risk assessments and incident investigations
- Strong communication and ability to influence frontline staff
- Full UK driving licence and own vehicle
Desirable:
- Waste services or local government experience
- NEBOSH General Certificate
- CCTV monitoring/investigation experience
