Chief Accountant Location: Bromsgrove & Redditch, Worcestershire Pay Rate: £453.00 per day PAYE Gross Weekly Pay: £2,265.00 (based on five paid days) Hours: 37 hours per week Contract: 6 months Working Pattern: Hybrid – ideally a minimum of one day per week on-site ### The Opportunity LYNX Employment Services are recruiting an experienced Chief Accountant for a senior interim appointment supporting two local authorities in Worcestershire. Offering £453 per day PAYE, this is an excellent opportunity for an accomplished local government finance professional to take a leading role in statutory financial reporting, treasury management and financial governance across two local authorities. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Finance and Customer Services, you will lead a specialist finance team and take responsibility for delivering accurate, compliant and timely financial information, while providing strategic advice to senior leadership. This position combines hands-on technical accounting expertise with senior financial leadership, making it ideal for someone who can confidently manage complex financial responsibilities while driving improvements across the service. ### Key Responsibilities Lead the preparation and delivery of annual Statements of Accounts for both local authorities, ensuring compliance with IFRS, CIPFA requirements and statutory deadlines. Oversee year-end accounting, balance sheets, fixed asset registers, reconciliations and general ledger controls. Manage treasury functions, including cash flow, borrowing, lending and financial risk. Coordinate revenue and capital budgets, supporting budget preparation, monitoring and financial forecasting. Oversee corporate finance budgets, grants, external funding and savings monitoring. Liaise with external auditors and senior stakeholders, ensuring robust financial governance and regulatory compliance. Lead, mentor and develop a specialist team comprising technical accounting, systems accounting and reconciliation professionals. Provide strategic financial advice to senior management and service departments, supporting effective financial decision-making. Identify opportunities to improve financial systems, processes, reporting and internal controls. ### Essential Requirements To be considered, you must demonstrate: Full CCAB accountancy qualification, with at least five years' post-qualification experience. Proven experience producing Statements of Accounts within a local authority environment. Strong technical knowledge of IFRS, CIPFA accounting requirements and statutory financial reporting. Experience managing finance teams, budgets and complex financial operations. Sound understanding of treasury management, balance sheet accounting and financial controls. Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder engagement skills. Ability to work strategically while remaining confident in hands-on technical accounting. Full driving licence. Previous experience working across shared finance services or multiple local authorities would be advantageous. ### Why Apply?
