Lynx Employment Services are recruiting on behalf of our client for 3 experienced Environmental Protection Officers to join a busy Environmental Services & Port Health team. We are looking to recruit three EPOs including:
- 2 x Environmental Protection Officers (Senior level experience preferred)
- 1 x Senior Environmental Protection Officer with strong line management experience
These are excellent opportunities to work across a wide range of environmental protection and public health matters, helping to protect communities, improve environmental quality and ensure compliance with environmental legislation.
The Role
You will investigate environmental protection matters, provide specialist regulatory advice, and work with colleagues, businesses, residents and partner agencies to deliver effective environmental services across the district. The successful candidates will work across a varied caseload which may include:
- Animal licensing
- Planning consultations
- Noise nuisance investigations
- Waste crime
- Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs)
- Contaminated land
- Pollution control
- Environmental permitting
- Public health and environmental protection enforcement
Key responsibilities include:
- Investigating environmental complaints and statutory nuisance cases.
- Carrying out inspections, investigations and site visits.
- Preparing technical reports, enforcement notices and prosecution files.
- Providing specialist advice on environmental protection legislation.
- Working with Planning, Licensing and Legal teams.
- Liaising with residents, businesses, contractors and partner agencies.
- Managing complex environmental investigations.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant environmental legislation and council policies.
- Representing the authority where required in legal proceedings and formal hearings.
The Senior Environmental Protection Officer role will also include:
- Providing technical guidance and mentoring colleagues.
- Leading complex investigations and projects.
- Supporting service improvement and policy development.
- Line management responsibilities for a small team.
Essential Requirements
- Degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification in Environmental Health or an Environmental Protection-related subject.
- Previous experience working within Environmental Protection for a Local Authority.
- Experience across a broad range of Environmental Protection disciplines.
- Knowledge of environmental legislation and regulatory enforcement.
- Strong investigation and report-writing skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
