Pay Rate: £15.70 per hour PAYE

Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 5:30pm

Contract: 15 June 2026 - 15 September 2026

We are recruiting for an experienced Planning Officer to support a busy Development Management team dealing with a varied caseload of planning applications and development proposals. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a planning professional with experience of the UK planning system to manage applications, provide planning advice, undertake site visits and contribute to the delivery of sustainable development within local and national planning policy frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process and determine a range of planning applications, consents and prior approvals
  • Provide pre-application planning advice to applicants and stakeholders
  • Assess planning applications and prepare reports with recommendations
  • Undertake site visits, surveys, investigations and research work
  • Liaise with applicants, agents, developers, councillors and statutory consultees
  • Negotiate planning matters, including Section 106 agreements and infrastructure contributions
  • Prepare and present reports to Planning Committee where required
  • Manage appeals and assist with the preparation of evidence and witness statements
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with planning legislation and policy
  • Manage a varied caseload while meeting statutory deadlines and performance targets

About You

  • A relevant degree in Town Planning or a related professional qualification
  • Experience working within Development Management, either in a local authority or private practice
  • Good knowledge of UK planning legislation, policy and procedures
  • Experience handling a variety of planning applications and consents
  • Strong report-writing, analytical and assessment skills
  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications
  • Full UK driving licence and access to transport for site visits

Desirable

  • RTPI membership or eligibility for membership
  • Experience attending Planning Committees
  • Knowledge of planning appeals and related legal procedures
  • Experience negotiating Section 106 agreements and CIL matters
