The predicted salary is between 36 - 36 £ per hour.

Pay: £36.00 per hour Outside IR35

Hours: 16 hours per week, part-time

Working hours: 9:00am - 5:30pm

Start: 24 August 2026

End: 27 November 2026

Contract: Temporary/contract assignment

We are looking for an experienced Forestry Officer / Arboricultural Surveyor to provide specialist arboricultural support across tree management, development and infrastructure projects in Solihull. This is a consultancy and surveying role and does not involve physical tree surgery or operational tree works.

Key responsibilities:

  • Carry out tree condition inspections and risk assessments.
  • Undertake BS5837 tree surveys for development, demolition and construction projects.
  • Produce arboricultural reports, technical assessments and recommendations.
  • Advise on tree retention, protection, management and removal.
  • Support highways, planning, infrastructure and development projects.
  • Assist with the management of urban and rural tree populations.
  • Respond to tree-related enquiries from council departments and the public.
  • Liaise with contractors and other stakeholders.
  • Support tree risk management and inspection programmes.
  • Assist with felling licence applications and other statutory consents where required.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, British Standards and industry best practice.

Essential:

  • Professional Tree Inspection (PTI) qualification or equivalent recognised tree inspection qualification.
  • National Diploma in Arboriculture (NDip) or equivalent.
  • Demonstrable experience completing BS5837 surveys and assessments.
  • Strong tree inspection and tree risk management knowledge.
  • Experience producing professional arboricultural reports.
  • Knowledge of planning legislation relating to trees and development.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable:

  • Local authority experience.
  • GIS/tree management database experience.
  • Woodland management knowledge.
  • Experience supporting highways, infrastructure or regeneration projects.

Ideal candidates may currently work as: Arboricultural Surveyor, Arboricultural Consultant, Tree Officer, Forestry Officer or Local Authority Arboricultural Officer.
