Job Description
Contract: 3 months initially (potential for extension)
Rate: Up to £45/hour
Hours: 40 hours/week (flexible working considered)
Location: Belfast-based (1 day/week in office + site visits as required)
Start Date: Immediate
We are seeking an experienced Ecologist to support major infrastructure projects in Northern Ireland, with a particular focus on highway and rail ecological surveys. This role offers flexibility, autonomy, and the chance to lead impactful environmental work within a supportive team.
Key Responsibilities

Lead and conduct ecological surveys for highways and rail projects.

Ensure compliance with UK and NI wildlife legislation, especially regarding protected species.

Prepare high-quality technical and ecological reports.

Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to deliver project objectives.

Apply cross-disciplinary species knowledge to a variety of projects.

Make informed, independent decisions both in the field and office.
Essential Requirements

Minimum 34 years relevant ecological experience.

PTS certification (highly desirable) and ability to work on rail.

Strong knowledge of UK and NI wildlife legislation.

Proven ability to lead surveys and deliver technical reporting.

Full UK driving licence (vehicle provided for site work).

Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
Additional Information

Role primarily based in Northern Ireland; remote review work from other regions may be possible (no travel to Britain required).
