The Role
We are recruiting an experienced Building Control Interim Lead to take operational and strategic responsibility for a Building Control service within a large public-sector organisation. This is a senior leadership assignment with responsibility for Building Control Surveying, Technical and Business Support, ensuring statutory compliance while driving performance, transformation and service improvement. The successful candidate will provide professional leadership on Building Control and Building Safety, oversee compliance with Building Safety Regulator requirements and lead implementation of the Building Safety Levy.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Building Control service and associated teams.
- Provide senior professional advice on Building Control and Building Safety.
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and BSR quality assurance standards.
- Lead implementation of the Building Safety Levy.
- Develop strategies to increase the service's market share and income.
- Lead service transformation, organisational change and digital improvement.
- Manage performance, risk, health & safety and business continuity.
- Take responsibility for budgets, forecasting, financial performance and targets.
- Lead procurement, contract management and relationships with consultants and contractors.
- Develop and motivate high-performing Building Control teams.
- Work with senior leadership, elected members and internal and external stakeholders.
Essential Requirements
- A relevant professional degree, diploma or equivalent in Building Studies, Civil/Structural Engineering, Building Control, Building Surveying or a related discipline.
- Registration as a Building Inspector with the Building Safety Regulator at an appropriate level.
- Membership of an appropriate professional body and/or relevant management qualification, such as RICS, CIOB, CABE, ICE, IStructE, CMI or ILM.
- Extensive senior-level experience managing Building Control and/or Building Surveying services.
- Strong understanding of local government/public-sector environments.
- Strong contract and project management experience.
- Experience leading cultural and organisational change and developing high-performing teams.
- Excellent business and service-planning experience.
- The successful candidate will also need excellent leadership, negotiation, stakeholder-management, commercial, performance and financial-management skills and must be able to travel throughout the area.
Working Arrangements
The role is based from Thrapston with hybrid working available. Candidates must be able to attend the office and undertake visits across North Northamptonshire for a minimum of three days per week.
