Birmingham Day Rate: Circa Β£400 per day Contract: 36 months Working Pattern: Minimum 3 days per week on site IR35 Status: Inside IR35We are recruiting an experienced Design Manager to support a portfolio of major electricity transmission projects.The role will involve coordinating and overseeing design activities across multiple schemes, ensuring design outputs are delivered on time, to the required quality and in accordance with relevant technical standards.### Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop, maintain and monitor design programmes across multiple projectsCoordinate design activities with planning, procurement and construction teamsLead design reviews and coordinate multidisciplinary design teamsEnsure designs meet relevant technical, assurance and CDM requirementsManage assurance submissions, hold-point reviews and gateway approvalsMaintain design change registers and manage early warnings and compensation eventsAssess the impact of design changes on cost, programme and project riskManage RFIs, technical queries and design communicationsLiaise with clients, designers, OEMs, subcontractors and delivery teamsIdentify and manage temporary and permanent works design risksSupport tender development and pre-construction activitiesPromote buildability, standardisation, lessons learned and continuous improvementSupport and mentor Assistant Design Managers where required### Essential ExperienceAt least 8 years experience in design management or a related role Experience coordinating design inputs across multidisciplinary teams Previous responsibility for design activities across multiple projects Experience within UK electricity transmission or major infrastructure Strong design programme management and technical assurance experience Knowledge of NEC change-control processes, including early warnings and compensation events Strong stakeholder management and project leadership experience Familiarity with National Grid standards, assurance processes and project expectations ### Desirable ExperienceBackground in HV substations, overhead lines, cable routes or similar transmission assets Degree in engineering, project management, construction management or a related discipline Experience working to UK energy transmission and distribution specifications Experience within the UK energy sector or another highly regulated industry Membership of a relevant professional institution Candidates must be able to attend the Birmingham site for a minimum of three days each week.Please apply with an up-to-date CV outlining your electricity transmission, infrastructure and design management experience.
