Location: Shrewsbury, Shropshire (Hybrid 2 days per week on site)

Rate: £540.25 per day PAYE plus holiday pay

Contract: Interim until October 2026 (could become permanent for the right person)

Hours: 37 hours per week

Lynx Employment Services are recruiting on behalf of Shropshire Council for an experienced Interim Assistant Director of Adult Social Care. This is a key leadership role providing both strategic and operational oversight of Adult Social Care services across the county. The successful candidate will lead service improvement, drive performance, ensure statutory compliance, and work collaboratively with partners across health, housing, care and the wider council to deliver excellent outcomes for residents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership across Adult Social Care services.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory duties, safeguarding responsibilities and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead quality assurance, performance management and continuous service improvement.
  • Manage budgets, resources and workforce performance effectively.
  • Drive transformation, modernisation and service redesign initiatives.
  • Work closely with NHS, housing, community and voluntary sector partners to support integrated care.
  • Advise senior officers, elected members and partnership boards on key Adult Social Care matters.
  • Promote strengths-based practice, prevention, independence and person-centred support.
  • Lead risk management, governance and regulatory readiness activities.

  • Significant senior leadership experience within Adult Social Care.
  • Strong understanding of Care Act responsibilities, safeguarding and regulatory frameworks.
  • Proven track record of service improvement, transformation and change management.
  • Experience managing large budgets and complex service areas.
  • Excellent partnership-building and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong political awareness and ability to work effectively within a local authority environment.
  • Relevant professional qualification and leadership credentials.
