Regional daily, the Bournemouth Echo, is seeking an outstanding reporter to cover politics in one of Newsquest\’s largest newsrooms, as part of the Local Democracy Reporting scheme.

You will join a team known for breaking agenda-setting council stories and supporting the BBC\’s public journalism programme.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

We require someone with excellent knowledge and passion for local government, capable of writing engaging and compelling copy. Shorthand skills and a formal journalism qualification are essential.

Key Responsibilities

You will cover local councils in Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole, and report on significant news stories. This role offers a unique opportunity to join a leading title with a strong digital and print presence, and to be part of a network of major news brands across the UK.

The position is part of the BBC-funded local democracy scheme, suitable for senior reporters looking to advance their careers, as well as outstanding newly-NCTJ qualified reporters.

The service ensures stories are published across various sites and newspapers, providing broad visibility.

This flexible role involves covering council meetings, some in the evenings, offering a good work-life balance.
