Learning Support Specialist (maternity cover)

We are looking for talented individuals who want to be part of a modern, bilingual, progressive and dynamic school that promotes excellence through care. This is a fixed-term, part-time contract of 24 hours of work per week, on site, during term time, plus approximately eight days of CPD outside of term time. The salary includes the statutory 5.6 weeks of annual leave and national bank holidays, prorated for TTO team members and other part-time contracts.

The Learning Support Specialist is a qualified teacher by education and is responsible for supporting students with learning differences in line with the Student Wellbeing team's mission and the school's ethos and mission of diversity and inclusion. They provide instruction in learning strategies and build independence in students with suspected or identified special educational needs and social, emotional and mental health difficulties.

Key responsibilities

• Assess students' learning needs and develop personalised learning strategies using the mainstream curriculum.
• Promote inclusive learning and celebrate diversity across the school community.
• Maintain and update the school's Special Educational Needs (SEN) register and support plans.
• Work closely with teachers to provide academic support and effective classroom strategies for students with additional needs.
• Build strong partnerships with families through regular communication and support.
• Coordinate referrals to external support services, including counselling, tutoring, and speech and language therapy.
• Deliver training to staff and parents on SEN, SEMH, and inclusive practices.
• Plan and deliver targeted interventions for students with SEN, behavioural, social, and emotional needs.
• Lead and support the student Diversity Committee, encouraging student voice and inclusion.
• Contribute to the planning and delivery of the PSHE and RSE curriculum.
• Organise and promote whole-school wellbeing and inclusion initiatives, including anti-bullying, mental health, neurodiversity, and LGBTQ+ awareness events.
• Foster positive relationships between home and school to support student wellbeing and achievement.
• Carry out additional duties as required by the leadership team.

What we are looking forEssential:

• A qualified educator (QTS) with experience of supporting students aged 3-18 with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
• An experienced teacher who can deliver personalised learning support, differentiated instruction, and study skills tailored to individual learning needs.
• A professional who can monitor student progress, set individual targets, and promote emotional self-management and independent learning.
• Someone who can apply inclusive teaching practices, reasonable adjustments, and safeguarding principles to support student wellbeing and success.
• An effective collaborator who can work well with colleagues, families, and external professionals while maintaining strong communication and professional boundaries.
• An excellent organiser with IT and time management skills, committed to continuous professional development and the effective use of technology to enhance learning.

Desirable:

• A SENCO or other related qualification (e.g. Level 7 Postgraduate SpLD, educational psychology, pediatric occupational therapy or speech and language therapy qualification).
• Experience of developing and facilitating behaviour and social skills groups.
• Knowledge of and ability to utilise relevant screening tools to help understand student needs.
• Proficiency in French is preferred but not required.
