Rayden Engineering Ltd is a well-established Mechanical & Civil Engineering company based in the East Midlands, specialising in the
pre-fabrication, welding and installation of pipework systems across a wide variety of alloys . The business is also involved in the installation of
cross-country pipelines and pipeline diversions up to 42”, Above Ground Installations (AGIs), structural steelwork and major civil engineering works . Following continued growth and the successful delivery of major contracts nationwide within the oil & gas sector, we are now looking to appoint an experienced
Workshop Manager
to join the team. The Role
Based at our Head Office facility in Ilkeston, the Workshop Manager will take responsibility for the day-to-day management of our busy fabrication facility, covering both
structural steel and pipework fabrication . This is a hands-on management position requiring someone who can lead from the front, organise and motivate a skilled workforce and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time and to the required quality standards. You will also provide support during the
pre-construction and estimating stages
of projects and work closely with the wider management team, clients, designers and subcontractors. Key Responsibilities
Manage the day-to-day operation of a busy steel and pipe fabrication facility.
Plan, allocate and supervise the workforce across multiple fabrication projects.
Ensure projects achieve agreed targets for quality, programme, budget and customer satisfaction.
Monitor fabrication works to ensure compliance with client specifications and relevant quality standards.
Liaise closely with internal teams, clients and operational personnel.
Maintain accurate records, project documentation and detailed daily fabrication diaries.
Identify and resolve fabrication and production issues.
Maintain and promote high standards of
Health, Safety & Environmental compliance .
Deliver HS&E toolbox talks in collaboration with the HS&E Manager.
Check quality and health & safety standards and implement corrective action where required.
Motivate and develop team members to achieve agreed goals and targets.
Ensure excellent housekeeping standards throughout the workshop.
Build positive, productive relationships with clients and provide excellent customer service.
Support project engineering, estimating and pre-construction activities where required.
Skills & Experience
We are looking for an experienced engineering professional with a strong background in
steel and pipe fabrication
and proven experience managing workshop/works operations. Ideally, you will have: A minimum
HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent .
At least
5 years' experience within an engineering environment .
Proven management experience within
steel and pipe fabrication .
Experience working within
ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems .
Knowledge and experience of
ISO 3834 and BS EN 1090
management systems.
Strong leadership, organisational and time-management skills.
A successful track record of delivering engineering projects
on time and within budget .
The ability to read and review
piping, structural and civil engineering drawings .
Experience in project engineering and design management.
Experience completing
risk assessments and method statements .
The ability to carry out site surveys, obtain accurate measurements and interpret/produce drawings.
Strong problem-solving skills and good commercial awareness.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong IT skills; experience with
Microsoft Project or similar planning software
would be advantageous.
Excellent attention to detail.
Most importantly, you will be a practical, hands-on manager who is prepared to
roll up your sleeves , work alongside the team when required and take genuine ownership of the performance of the workshop. What We Offer
