L Y Recruitment are proud to be recruiting on behalf of a leading Mechanical and Civil Engineering contractor specialising in Oil, Gas and Utility Infrastructure projects throughout the UK. Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Buyer to join their Head Office team in Ilkeston. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded procurement professional with experience within Construction, Civils, Utilities, Engineering or Plant Hire environments.

The Role

Working within a busy contracting office, you will be responsible for purchasing pipe, associated fittings, valves, materials and equipment to support multiple projects nationwide. You will also manage the hire of light and heavy plant and equipment for site-based operations across the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Procurement of materials, plant and equipment across multiple projects
  • Managing supplier relationships and negotiating best-value agreements
  • Obtaining quotations, conducting tender exercises and benchmarking costs
  • Supporting project teams with procurement requirements and specifications
  • Managing supplier performance and service levels
  • Ensuring procurement activities remain within programme and budget requirements
  • Maintaining commercial agreements and supply contracts
  • Producing procurement reports for Directors and Senior Management
  • Sourcing and hiring plant and equipment for nationwide construction projects

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience as a Buyer within Construction, Civils, Utilities, Engineering or Infrastructure sectors
  • Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills
  • Experience managing multiple procurement activities simultaneously
  • Ability to analyse quotations and identify best-value solutions
  • Strong supplier relationship management skills
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Positive, proactive and professional approach
  • CIPS qualification or equivalent would be advantageous but is not essential
