The Opportunity
L Y Recruitment are proud to be recruiting on behalf of a leading Engineering and Infrastructure Contractor delivering major Mechanical, Civil Engineering and Utility projects throughout the UK. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of work, we are seeking an experienced Contracts Manager to oversee the successful delivery of multiple projects nationwide whilst leading and developing a team of Project Managers, Site Managers and Operational Support staff. This is a senior leadership opportunity offering significant responsibility, autonomy and career progression within a highly successful and expanding organisation.
The successful candidate will possess a proven track record within Utilities, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Infrastructure, Pipeline or Oil & Gas sectors and will be commercially astute with exceptional leadership, communication and organisational skills.
The Role
Reporting directly to Senior Management, you will be responsible for the operational, commercial and contractual delivery of a portfolio of projects across the UK. You will ensure projects are delivered safely, profitably, on programme and to the highest quality standards whilst maintaining exceptional client relationships and developing high-performing teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Full operational and commercial responsibility for the successful delivery of multiple contracts nationwide.
- Manage and support Project Managers, Site Managers and Contract Support Teams.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with client specifications.
- Maintain responsibility for project budgets, profit and loss performance and cost control.
- Maximise profitability whilst managing risk and protecting commercial interests.
- Work closely with procurement teams to ensure effective supply chain management and cost-effective purchasing.
- Oversee subcontractors and ensure quality, safety and programme objectives are achieved.
- Manage project programmes, resources and change throughout the construction process.
- Ensure quality and consistency of workmanship from project commencement through to completion.
- Maintain accurate project records, reports and contractual documentation.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through excellent communication and service delivery.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement across projects and operations.
- Lead, motivate and develop operational teams to achieve business objectives and project targets.
- Support business growth through professional client engagement and stakeholder management.
What We're Looking For
Essential Experience
- Minimum 10 years' experience in a Contracts Management role.
- Strong background within Utilities, Infrastructure, Pipeline, Oil & Gas, Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering sectors.
- Proven experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong commercial awareness with experience managing budgets, profit and loss responsibilities.
- Excellent understanding of contract management and commercial risk.
- Experience managing Project Managers, Site Managers and operational teams.
- Strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational and time management abilities.
- Advanced IT skills and reporting capabilities.
Qualifications
- Construction-related HNC, Degree or equivalent qualification.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
- Working knowledge of NEC3 and NEC4 contracts.
- Experience delivering projects within the Utilities or Pipeline sectors.
- Understanding of both Mechanical and Civil Engineering disciplines.
- Experience working on nationally significant infrastructure projects.
