We have a new opportunity for a Test Engineer to join our Data Transformation Project and play a key role in delivering a reliable, high-quality data platform built on Microsoft Fabric. Working across the data delivery lifecycle, you'll lead ETL testing, data validation, test automation and defect management. You'll ensure data is accurately and securely transferred into data warehouse and datalake environments, validating transformations and business rules to support trusted reporting, analytics and decision-making. As a guardian of quality, you'll drive automated testing, regression testing and early validation practices to ensure robust and scalable data solutions. The role is offered on a fixed-term basis of 12 months and will be based out of our Bournemouth office with presence required once a month.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop and execute ETL test plans, test cases and test scenarios for data pipelines.
  • Validate data accuracy, completeness, security, transformation logic and pipeline performance.
  • Perform data validation and reconciliation testing to ensure data integrity across source and target systems.
  • Develop and maintain automated ETL test scripts using SQL, Python and testing frameworks.
  • Integrate automated data validation checks into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Identify, document, track and manage defects, undertaking root cause analysis where required.
  • Produce and maintain test plans, execution reports, defect logs and data quality metrics.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers, Architects and business stakeholders to ensure solutions meet requirements and user stories.

About You

  • Proven experience testing data pipelines, ETL processes and data transformations.
  • Strong knowledge of Azure DevOps (or similar test management tools).
  • Strong SQL and/or Python skills for data analysis and validation of large datasets.
  • Experience producing test status reports and identifying delivery risks.
  • Experience with test automation tools and frameworks (Python and PyTest).
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing, databases, ETL concepts and architecture.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience working with cloud data platforms such as Microsoft Fabric or Azure Databricks.
  • Experience testing OLTP, OLAP and BI reporting solutions.
  • Experience generating and manipulating test data.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Desirable: ISEB Foundation Level in Software Testing (or equivalent).
  • Experience within the Life Insurance sector across a range of projects and operational areas.
