We have a fantastic opportunity for a highly organised individual to join us as a Valuation Actuary within our established Finance department. Within this unique and imperative role, you will act as a subject matter expert, particularly around Protection and With-Profits valuation, to provide support and technical expertise. You’ll efficiently communicate complex information to a range of stakeholders in a clear manner, while contributing to the team’s delivery of services within agreed timeframes and quality standards. The role is offered on a fixed-term basis of nine months and is based at our Bournemouth office (flexible hybrid working model is available, so we are happy to consider candidates who do not live locally, however you must be able to attend the Bournemouth office periodically).
Key Responsibilities
- Delivering key work, documentation and reports in a timely and accurate manner.
- Communicating complex information clearly, via written presentations, reports and papers, to various stakeholders and senior decision makers where required.
- Promoting robust risk management practices and ensuring all applicable company policies are followed.
- Demonstrating commercial acumen and understanding while deploying strong risk management skills and suggesting improvements where necessary.
- Monitoring regulatory and market developments and assessing potential impacts on the business.
- Maintaining awareness of current commercial, technical and regulatory developments.
- Providing guidance and coaching to Actuarial Analysts, Senior Actuarial Analysts and junior colleagues where required.
- Identifying, contributing to and implementing continuous improvement initiatives within the team, across Finance (and business wide, where appropriate).
- Building and maintaining excellent working relationships within your department and the wider business.
- Assisting in resolving complex issues where required.
- Contributing to key projects and providing your insight and knowledge.
About You
- Have obtained relevant professional qualifications such as becoming a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.
- Have recent experience of working in an actuarial valuation team, ideally with With-Profits and Protection Valuation experience (we are happy to consider candidates who are close to completing exams or have relevant experience).
- Have a strong technical background, with direct experience in the UK financial services market and economic environment (gained while studying or when qualified as a Fellow).
- Understand limitations to process and know when to escalate issues that require further support to resolve.
- Be an expert within an area of specialism that enables you to work independently with minimal guidance.
- Demonstrate strong analytical skills, including experience with tools such as Excel, R, Python, and Power BI – knowledge of Prophet or similar will be key.
- Possess strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Word and PowerPoint).
- Be an excellent communicator (written and verbal), with the ability to clearly communicate important information to stakeholders, senior management and internal committees.
- Be self-motivated, with the ability to effectively manage conflicting priorities.
- Work collaboratively and cooperatively with colleagues, providing guidance and support where required.
