About the Role

We have a unique opportunity for a professional individual to join our established team as a Protection Pricing Actuary. Within this role, you'll provide your technical expertise and Protection Pricing knowledge, demonstrate a strong ability to clearly communicate technical terms to a range of stakeholders, and contribute to the team's delivery of work against agreed timeframes and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Consistently delivering complex work in an accurate and timely manner, with the ability to efficiently manage your workload.
  • Clearly communicating complex terminology through presentations, documents and reports to a range of stakeholders and senior decision makers when required.
  • Promoting good risk management practices, ensuring that all applicable company procedures are followed, and demonstrating commercial expertise.
  • Monitoring and maintaining your awareness of regulatory and market developments, and assessing potential impacts of these on the Protection Pricing area.
  • Carrying out data analysis and communicating findings within the team where appropriate.
  • Providing training, guidance and coaching to more junior staff where appropriate (you may become a line manager to a member of the team over time).
  • Applying best practice and existing knowledge to strengthen processes and drive a culture of continuous improvement, across the department and wider business.
  • Building effective working relationships within the team and throughout the Protection business, plus other departments such as Finance.
  • Proactively working to resolve complex pricing issues as they arise.
  • Working on Protection-based pricing projects, both in collaboration with colleagues and independently.

About You

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Be a qualified Actuary, with robust experience in Pricing and demonstrable experience in a similar role.
  • Have sufficient awareness of limitations to processes and the company.
  • Understand when to escalate issues that require further support to resolve.
  • Possess strong analytical skills, with the ability to effectively utilise tools such as Excel, R, Prophet, and Power BI.
  • Demonstrate strong IT skills, including strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programmes such as Outlook, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Be a fantastic communicator, with engaging presentation skills - the ability to communicate complex, technical information to senior management and internal committees will be essential.
  • Be a self-motivated individual, able to effectively manage your own workload.
  • Support on and seek out opportunities for continuous improvement activity.
  • Be a collaborative individual, with a team player mindset.
  • Possess people management skills, with experience of carrying out line manager duties for a small team (desirable but not essential).
  • Showcase a strong technical background, with hands-on experience in the UK financial services market and economic environment (gained while studying or when qualified as a Fellow).
  • Have gained appropriate professional qualifications such as Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.
