Role Care Assistant

Working pattern Zero-hours contracts with flexible working arrangements. A rolling rota of around 3.5 days per week is available where applicable. Mornings, lunchtimes and evenings are the busiest parts of the day.

Driving A full UK driving licence and access to a car are required for this role. Visits are spread across Burton, Swadlincote and the surrounding villages, and the rounds do not work without a car.

DBS An enhanced DBS check is completed before anyone visits a client's home. This is a requirement of working in regulated care, not an optional extra.

Training Induction before you work independently, then ongoing e-learning through Lumis. Our policies and procedures are structured through QCS, so what you are taught matches how we actually work.

The role

Main responsibilities

  • Providing personal care β€” washing, dressing, continence support β€” with dignity and patience.
  • Supporting medication prompts and administration as set out in the care plan.
  • Preparing meals and drinks, and helping with light household tasks during a visit.
  • Keeping accurate visit notes in Birdie at the time of each visit.
  • Communicating any changes in a client's condition to the office team promptly.
  • Treating every client and their home with respect, following the care plan and the client's preferences.

A day in the role

What a normal shift involves

A morning round typically starts early β€” visits are clustered around when people get up, have breakfast and take morning medication. You might do five to eight visits in a shift, each one 30 to 60 minutes long, with travel time between them. The afternoon and evening rounds cover teatime, settling people in for the night and evening medication. You are not rushed between calls: a 45-minute visit is worked as 45 minutes.

Who we are looking for

Person specification

What we look for

  • Patience, kindness and the instinct to notice when something is not right.
  • Reliability β€” people are depending on you arriving when you said you would.
  • Respect for privacy and dignity in someone's own home.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a car for travel between visits.

Experience: Previous care experience is valued but not always required. We recruit for temperament first and teach the practical skills. Many of the best carers came from retail, hospitality or caring for their own family.

Qualifications: No formal qualifications are required to start. Induction training is provided before you work independently, and ongoing learning runs through Lumis.

Pay and benefits

What this role pays

Published up front, including the part most adverts leave out.

per hour β€” drivers

per hour β€” non-drivers (rare for this role)

per hour β€” training time is paid

  • Paid training time β€” induction and ongoing learning are paid, not expected for free.
  • Uniform tops and photo ID badge provided.
  • A small, local team where you know the people you work with and the people you support.

From Care Assistant, the natural progression is to Senior Care Assistant, then to Field Care Supervisor or Care Coordinator. We support that progression with training and increased responsibility rather than expecting people to leave to progress.

Why work for Luxuricare?

We protect visit times, we keep rounds geographically tight so you are not spending unpaid hours in the car, and we provide proper systems β€” Birdie for care planning, QCS for policies, Lumis for learning. You will not be working from memory and goodwill.

What supports you

The tools you get

Carers are usually let down by the organisation around them rather than by their own effort. These three systems exist so that does not happen here.

Birdie Care planning & digital records

Structured policies and procedures that support professional standards across everything we do.

Lumis Staff e-learning

Ongoing e-learning and staff development, so our team keeps building on what they know.
