JOB SCOPE AND MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

To lead production processes in the production departments in co-ordination with the Production Shift Manager to ensure that the Production departments meet their KPI’s.

To ensure that departmental standard operating procedures and company HS&E policies are adhered to.

There will be a need for the job holder to step into the Production Shift Manager role for approximately 5 weeks per annum.

This role is a Direct role meaning that around 80% of the job role will be spent on the line performing a production function.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES AND RELATED ACTIVITIES

Key Responsibilities

  • Work to ensure people and resources are applied in an efficient and effective manner to meet delivery requirements while achieving quality and safety standards
  • Ensure that team members follow defined assembly procedures and comply with quality requirements
  • Ensure full adherence to 5S practices at all times
  • Ensure equipment is within calibration date and all systems are functioning correctly
  • Ensure all records are completed appropriately
  • Ensure that non-conforming product is clearly identified and segregated and rejected / reworked as necessary to ensure a consistent analysis thereby leading to quick resolution of problems.
  • Ensure that the escalation procedure for quality concerns is followed
  • Ensure achievement of production throughput against stated capacity targets
  • Ensure the team are aware of day to day targets and responsibilities
  • Carry out incident, accident and non-conformity investigations and associated reporting and action closure
  • Monitor and maintain all safety equipment and tools and ensure that operators comply with PPE requirements
  • Undertake continuous training and development
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems
  • Identify business improvement opportunities within the organisation
  • Conduct risk assessments of processes and tasks in the department
  • Monitor the department’s objectives, including where appropriate physically supporting the production functions.
  • Support, comply and ensure complicity with Health & Safety regulations, the Company Handbook, Quality and Environmental standards, and all other Company policies and procedures
  • To step back into a production operator role when manning and workflow constraints make it necessary.
  • To maintain a sufficient understanding of the Production Shift Managers role, to enable you to fully deputise in their absence.
  • To carry out the tasks detailed above and in addition to undertake the tasks and responsibilities of the Production Shift Manager as per the job description for periods of absence and holiday
  • People Management
  • Assisting with daily management queries and providing support for the team to achieve operational success
  • Monitor time, attendance and punctuality to ensure compliance with Company Procedures, reporting any concerns to the Production Shift Manager
  • Provide support and expertise to the team and respond to operator queries
  • Consistently promote high standards through personal example and roll out through the team so that each member of the team understands the standards and behaviours expected of them
  • Promote the department KPIs from the strategic annual plan so that each employee is aware of expectations and deliverables
  • Relationship Management
  • Work positively with support functions to fully define the processes/procedures/controls relevant to team activities.
  • Provide support and input to continuous improvement activities within the team
  • Manage resources and allocation of those resources to meet production targets
  • Liaise and communicate with other departments and ensure communication is maintained
  • Feedback to the Management team to share ideas and improve operation, recommending, supporting and implementing continuous improvement activities and process and procedure improvements to optimise results and improve quality of delivery, in line with quality standards requirements and delivery in line with Company and Customer requirements
  • Health & Safety Responsibilities
  • To work in line with duty of care to self/others and ensure Health & Safety guidelines are followed in line with company policy.
  • To bring to the attention of the business hazards, risks, concerns, accidents or near misses.
  • Comply with any local PPE requirements.
  • To work in line with in line with Environmental & energy policies.
  • To bring to the attention of the business environmental hazards, risks and concerns.
  • Legal Responsibilities
  • To work in line with in line with legislation.
  • To abide by the legal compliance policy in the performing of these duties.
  • PORTRAIT OF A PERFECT CANDIDATE
  • Experience in an ophthalmic lens manufacturing background
  • Ability to work on own without supervision
  • General knowledge of Ophthalmic lenses
  • Solid experience in ISO 14001, 18001 & ISO 45001 Management systems.
  • Solid experience in Lean Manufacturing techniques.
  • Knowledge of motivating teams and using initiative
  • Some knowledge of management techniques (Preferable)
  • Desire and enthusiasm to develop and progress
