We are seeking a Lead EICA Engineer to take technical ownership of Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation systems across our manufacturing site. This is a key leadership role within the Engineering team, supporting operational reliability, continuous improvement and future modernisation projects. The Lead EICA Engineer will provide technical leadership and hands‑on expertise to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation of site‑wide EICA systems. Working closely with Operations, Engineering, HSE, Planning and Maintenance teams, you will play a central role in maintaining high equipment uptime while driving improvement initiatives. In addition to technical responsibilities, the role includes mentoring and guiding junior engineers and apprentices, contributing to day‑to‑day departmental leadership and supporting the strategic development of control and instrumentation standards across site.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the maintenance, development and optimisation of electrical, instrumentation and control systems
  • Act as the technical authority for EICA‑related issues, providing expert fault‑finding and support during breakdowns
  • Support continuous improvement, plant upgrades and modernisation programmes
  • Ensure effective preventative maintenance, calibration and condition monitoring activities are in place
  • Interpret, maintain and develop engineering documentation including electrical schematics, loop diagrams, I/O lists and control philosophies
  • Work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams to improve safety, reliability and operational performance
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring and development support to junior engineers and apprentices
  • Ensure compliance with site standards, safe systems of work and relevant E&I regulations

Qualifications

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) including Mathematics, English and Science at grade C/4 or above
  • Level 5 or higher qualification in Engineering or a relevant discipline

Experience

  • Experience working with EICA systems in an industrial or manufacturing environment
  • Strong practical knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems and industrial control networks (e.g. Ethernet/IP, Profibus)
  • Proven experience in fault‑finding and supporting live plant operations from an EICA perspective
  • Solid understanding of instrumentation systems (temperature, pressure, flow, weight), including calibration and integration into control systems
  • Good understanding of control systems within production and safety‑critical environments
  • Experience with preventative maintenance strategies, calibration and condition monitoring

Skills & Knowledge

  • Ability to respond effectively to high‑level breakdowns and support maintenance teams
  • Ability to interpret and manage technical documentation and drawings
  • Experience using SAP
  • Experience in foundry or heavy manufacturing environments (furnaces, extrusion presses, robotics)
  • Experience in chemical processing environments (filter presses, tanks, flow loops, pH correction systems)
  • Knowledge of relevant standards and legislation (BS 7671, PUWER, BS EN ISO 12100, CE Marking, etc.)
  • Familiarity with safe systems of work (permits, isolations, risk assessments)
  • Experience using a CMMS

Working Pattern

37 hours per week, days based. Flexibility required to meet business and operational demands.
