Role Overview

As the Facilities Manager, reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will manage a small team of onsite engineers and work with external contractors to ensure the site utilities, including onsite steam boilers, water treatment plant and effluent plant are operating at optimum performance, complying with all relevant regulations including the EA permit and ISO 14001 certification. Additionally, you will lead both short‑ and long‑term objectives within the site facilities department to drive energy improvement and sustainability initiatives. You’ll be a problem solver for facilities‑related issues and liaise with a range of site personnel, including operators, engineers and health and safety teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect buildings and utilities plant to determine required services, repairs, and maintenance, and oversee corrective actions using internal or external resources.
  • Manage site HVAC, security, and fire systems, ensuring service contracts and testing are completed on schedule.
  • Organise and manage the workload of the facilities team, supporting the development of Facility Engineers and Apprentices.
  • Ensure essential utilities (gas, steam, compressed air, water, electricity) are available to the production plant, maintaining and updating SOPs as needed.
  • Provide facilities expertise to support and contribute to the site CAPEX plan, forecasting future needs.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, security, and environmental regulations, maintaining accurate records, reports, and compliance audits, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the delivery of supplier services, negotiating contracts and ensuring adherence to timescales, quality, and cost.
  • Maintain essential amenities such as water and heating across the site.
  • Implement strategies to improve energy efficiency, evaluate consumption, and recommend sustainable practices.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including operations, safety, and administration, to support facility needs and operational efficiency.
  • Develop and implement emergency response plans and procedures to maintain facility safety and minimize disruptions during emergencies.

About You

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • 5 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above including Science, Mathematics, and English.
  • Minimum Level 3 qualification in Engineering, Science, or a related discipline, ideally higher level qualification such as a degree.
  • Proven experience (minimum 5 years) as a Facilities Manager within an industrial manufacturing setting.
  • Strong knowledge of technical/engineering operations and facilities management best practices.
  • Understanding of health and safety compliance.
  • Excellent organisational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Leadership experience and/or qualification an advantage.
  • Experience with ISO 14001 an advantage.
