Role Overview
We have an excellent opportunity for a Process Engineer to join our Engineering Department at our Swinton site, reporting to the Head of Engineering. This role offers a varied mix of office‑based and plant‑based work, focusing on the Zirconium Chemicals business. You’ll play a key role in supporting daily operations, asset management, maintenance, and capital project execution, working closely with both operational teams and fellow engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Specify, develop, and analyse processes and equipment to support and implement continuous improvement initiatives across the site.
- Support both large and small capital expenditure projects from concept through to commissioning and optimisation.
- Participate in design reviews, management of change processes, hazard studies, and root cause analysis to ensure safety and identify areas for improvement.
- Update and review engineering documents, including piping and instrumentation diagrams, process flow diagrams, and equipment data sheets.
- Perform chemical engineering calculations such as mass and energy balances and fluid flow analysis.
- Develop technical solutions and communicate proposals through clear, well‑presented reports.
- Provide technical and troubleshooting support to the operations and maintenance teams.
- Contribute process engineering expertise to environmental initiatives across the site.
- Work collaboratively with the technical and sales teams to support new product development and the rapid scale‑up of new products.
About You
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Degree‑level qualification in Chemical Engineering.
- At least 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, including Maths, English, and Science.
- Experience as a Process Engineer within the chemical industry or similar.
- Proven experience in the optimisation and improvement of chemical processes.
Skills & Attributes
- Strong knowledge of standard chemical engineering calculations, e.g., heat transfer and equipment sizing.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Proficient in technical report writing and documentation.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to high standards of safety and quality.
- Ability to apply engineering knowledge to process and equipment issues as well as execute solutions.
