As a senior member of the Materials Quality Control team, you will be based in our Manchester facility working closely with our Quality Assurance and Production teams to ensure testing is carried out to a professional high standard. In particular, your primary accountability will be for non‑disruptive testing techniques across site, training, mentoring and developing the in‑house Level 1 and 2 testers, and ensuring compliance with all relevant standards. You will also support where required with other onsite testing such as Tensile Strength, Chemical Composition (for example, by XRF and OES Spectrometry), Corrosion Rates, etc.
Responsibilities
- Training operatives
- Reviewing and updating SOPs
- Calibrating equipment
- Developing new methods and reviewing specifications
- Reviewing output and supporting continuous improvement activities
- Ensuring high level of housekeeping – 5S adherence
- Carrying out internal audits
- Carrying out investigations and root cause analysis for any out of specification material
- Ensure compliance to all Environmental, Health and Safety policies, laws and regulations as they apply to laboratory function and operation
- Active involvement in ensuring the Department meets all key objectives measured by the Key Performance Indicators; participate in and lead Continuous Improvement Initiatives (such as Method Development, 5S and Lean Manufacturing Workflow Exercises) supporting the core values
- Responsible for organising own workload based on agreed priorities and deadlines; understand that predictable attendance is critical to accomplishing essential tasks
- Any other duties within the post holder’s competence as requested
Qualifications
- At least 5 GCSEs (Including English, Maths) – A–C
- Achieved a Level 3 NDT qualification (issued on behalf of the British Institute of Non‑Destructive Testing)
- At least 5 years experience with ultrasonic immersion testing techniques
- Experience working in an industrial or manufacturing environment
- Safety conscious and have a high level of attention to detail
- Professional approach to work and a team player

You’ll be employed on a permanent contract working weekdays. As our facility operates on a 24/7 basis, flexibility to cover occasional weekend or evening/night work may be required due to the nature of the role. You’ll be working from our head office in Swinton, Greater Manchester.
