We have an exciting opportunity for a graduate or early-career Improvement Project Engineer to join Luxfer MEL Technologies’ Continuous Improvement team. Reporting to the CI Lead and responsible to the IT & CI Manager, this role offers hands-on experience, real responsibility from day one and a clear pathway for career progression. You will work on practical projects that improve workplace efficiency, safety and employee experience, while helping manage a £100k+ improvement budget in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and deliver hands-on improvement projects to enhance employee wellbeing, morale and productivity.
- Coordinate effectively with external vendors to obtain competitive quotations and prioritise expenditure on facilities and welfare improvement projects.
- Act as a core member of the improvement committee, supporting ideas raised by employees.
- Design and implement cost-saving and error-proofing (Poka-Yoke) solutions.
- Apply Lean tools including 5S and Luxfer’s BEST Lean Programme.
- Support health, safety, environmental compliance and sustainable facility design initiatives.
- Work with management, contractors, suppliers and cross-functional teams.
- Develop project management, technical and professional skills through mentoring and coaching.
Essential Criteria:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Electrical or related) OR HNC/HND.
- At least 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) including English, Maths and Science.
- IT literate with strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical teams.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of building systems, safety standards and regulations.
- Experience in workplace design, ergonomics or employee experience initiatives.
- Familiarity with sustainability or green building practices.
- Experience issuing work permits and interpreting engineering drawings.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Familiarity with SAP, Power BI or other data tools.
Working Pattern:
Standard day shift, with flexibility to support contractor activity at weekends when required. This role offers structured development, mentoring and long-term progression within Continuous Improvement or the wider engineering organisation, including future opportunities in project management, facilities or operational excellence.
