BSL Communicator (part time, term time only, fixed term) (maternity cover) (hourly paid)

To support communication using British Sign Language and/or notetaking in the classroom and in support sessions. This will include:

  • Provide high-quality communication support for deaf students within lessons, enabling full participation in teaching, learning and classroom discussion through British Sign Language and other appropriate communication methods.
  • Deliver individual support outside the classroom, helping students develop understanding, independence, organisational skills and effective approaches to learning.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff to ensure learning materials, lessons and wider college activities are accessible and inclusive.
  • Maintain accurate records of support and contribute to the effective planning and review of student provision. Experience of working with deaf children, young people or adults.
  • CACDP/Signature Level 3 Sign Language qualification (or equivalent) preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.

  • Sixth Form College's Support Staff Spine point 54, Β£35.60 per hour, including an element for holiday and bank holiday pay.

Working 17.33 hours per week Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 5:10pm for, term time only. Hours are subject to change after the May half-term, depending on the year group, with additional support potentially required during June. A degree of flexibility is required. Working pattern Monday: 10:05am - 11:35am Tuesday: 10:05am - 3:35pm (45-minute unpaid lunch) Wednesday: 10:05am - 3:35pm (45-minute unpaid lunch) Thursday: 11:35am - 5:10pm (45-minute unpaid lunch) Friday: 2:05pm - 3:35pm This is a fixed term contract covering Maternity Leave, which will terminate on the return from Maternity leave of the permanent post holder, or the end of the academic year if this comes first.
