Luton Council is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Learning Support Advisory Teacher to join our dedicated SEND support services. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on outcomes for children and young people (CYP) with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) across mainstream schools. As a Learning Support Advisory Teacher, you will provide expert advice, guidance and challenge to schools, supporting inclusive practice and improving educational outcomes for pupils with SEND. You will work across either Early Years to KS2 or KS2 to KS4, depending on your experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality advisory support to mainstream schools in meeting the needs of pupils with SEND
- Assess, analyse and interpret standardised assessments to inform effective planning and intervention
- Produce clear, detailed and high-quality educational reports within agreed timescales
- Promote inclusive practice and positive learning behaviours for children and young people with SEND
- Work in partnership with headteachers, classroom teachers and teaching assistants to develop effective SEND provision
- Collaborate with parents/carers, other support services, and statutory and voluntary agencies
- Manage sensitive situations and conflict with tact, professionalism and empathy
About You
- Significant experience teaching pupils with SEND in mainstream schools, ideally with SEND coordination experience
- Ability to prioritise workloads and manage competing demands effectively
- In-depth knowledge of SEND legislation, equality legislation and inclusive best practice
- Strong understanding of effective teaching approaches for pupils with a wide range of SEND
- Proven ability to improve attainment and learning behaviours through targeted support
- Confidence in working collaboratively and influencing practice across schools and services
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive professional relationships
Essential Qualifications
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Further qualification or professional development in SEND
