Role Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Principal or Associate Electrical Design Engineer to play a leading role within their Building Services team in Glasgow. This position offers the opportunity to take ownership of complex projects, lead electrical design delivery, and contribute strategically to the growth and technical development of the business. You will be responsible for delivering innovative, sustainable electrical solutions across a diverse portfolio, while mentoring engineers and engaging directly with clients.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading electrical building services design on multidisciplinary projects from concept through to delivery
  • Managing project teams, ensuring quality, technical accuracy, and timely delivery
  • Acting as the primary electrical point of contact for clients and stakeholders
  • Undertaking and reviewing detailed design calculations, specifications, reports, and drawings
  • Driving energy-efficient and sustainable design solutions in line with net-zero strategies
  • Supporting business development activities, including bids and client relationship management
  • Mentoring and developing junior and intermediate engineers
  • Collaborating closely with mechanical, structural, and architectural teams

Requirements

  • Degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
  • Significant experience in electrical building services design within a consultancy environment
  • Proven track record at Principal or Associate level on complex, large-scale projects
  • Strong technical expertise in areas such as power distribution, lighting design, life safety systems, etc.
  • Excellent knowledge of UK regulations, standards, and guidance (e.g. IET Wiring Regulations, CIBSE, BS standards)
  • Experience leading projects and managing client relationships
  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities
  • Proficiency with industry-standard design software (e.g. Amtech, Dialux/Relux, Revit)
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards chartership is strongly preferred
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
