Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Heidenhain Programmer/Setter/Operator role based at Lunn Engineering Co Ltd in Atherstone. The role involves programming CNC machines using Heidenhain controls, setting up machines and tooling, and operating equipment to produce precision components to specification. Daily tasks include reading and interpreting technical drawings, selecting appropriate cutting tools and fixtures, performing first-off and in-process inspections, and making adjustments to programs or setups to maintain quality standards. The position also requires monitoring machine performance, completing production records, collaborating with colleagues to optimize machining processes, and following all health, safety, and quality procedures in line with ISO 9001 requirements.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in CNC programming using Heidenhain controls, including creating, modifying, and optimizing programs for precision machining.
- Strong CNC machine setting and operating skills, with experience in tooling selection, work-holding, and setup for small batch and production runs.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, geometric tolerances, and technical specifications for high-precision components.
- Competence in dimensional inspection using measuring tools (e.g., micrometers, verniers, gauges) and performing first-off and in-process checks.
- Solid understanding of machining principles, cutting speeds and feeds, and materials commonly used in precision engineering.
- Commitment to quality and continuous improvement, with experience working to ISO 9001 or similar quality standards.
- Effective teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and other machinists.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Previous experience in a precision engineering or subcontract CNC machining environment is highly beneficial.
- Relevant vocational qualification or apprenticeship in mechanical engineering, CNC machining, or a related discipline is an advantage.
