About the Company
Our client is a leading medical cannabis company with established operations in the UK, Germany, and Australia. Currently focused on the importation, manufacturing, and distribution of medical cannabis products, they are now expanding into clinical care and patient services through a new private clinic and pharmacy initiative.
This project aims to provide comprehensive symptom and disease management for patients with chronic and debilitating conditions, including pain, mental health issues, neurological disorders, and palliative care needs. The team is dedicated to improving safe, legal, and affordable access to medical cannabis for both experienced and cannabis-naïve patients, including those on long NHS waitlists.
With a mission to disrupt traditional care pathways, this new service will offer a seamless, patient-focused experience from consultation to prescription and delivery. The leadership team is open to collaboration with incoming clinicians on how best to shape the clinic’s model for both short- and long-term success.
Role Summary
As a Specialist Consultant Prescriber, you will play a central role in this innovative clinic by assessing and prescribing for patients eligible for cannabis-based medicinal products (CBMPs). Working within a fully integrated, multidisciplinary team, you will provide personalised, evidence-based care while ensuring full compliance with UK medical cannabis prescribing regulations.
This role allows for autonomous remote work, while offering the opportunity to collaborate with pharmacists, nurse prescribers, and regulatory experts. You will help define and optimise patient care pathways, contribute to the clinic’s clinical governance, and support the broader mission of improving access to medical cannabis in the UK.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct remote consultations and assessments of pre-screened patients alongside pharmacy or nursing colleagues.
- Prescribe medical cannabis-based products where clinically appropriate, in line with UK regulations and local best practice.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings (MDTs) to review cases and ensure safe, consistent prescribing.
- Oversee shared care arrangements, allowing pharmacist and nurse non-medical prescribers (NMPs) to manage repeat prescriptions under your supervision.
- Monitor patient outcomes, reviewing treatment efficacy and safety, and adjusting prescriptions as needed.
- Provide clinical guidance and mentorship to other prescribers in the team to ensure consistent, evidence-based practice.
- Maintain accurate and compliant medical records, adhering to GMC, controlled drugs, and Isle of Man healthcare regulations.
- Educate patients on the safe and responsible use of medical cannabis treatments.
- Stay current with emerging research, clinical guidelines, and regulatory updates related to medical cannabis.
Requirements
- GMC Specialist Registration in a relevant field (e.g., Pain Medicine, Psychiatry, Neurology, Oncology, Palliative Care).
- Demonstrated experience in prescribing medical cannabis.
- Background in managing patients with chronic pain, neurological conditions, mental health disorders, or palliative needs.
- Strong understanding of the clinical applications, risks, and benefits of cannabinoid medicines.
- Excellent patient communication, consultation, and clinical decision-making skills.
- Comfortable working independently in a remote setting, while collaborating effectively with a wider healthcare team.
- Committed to ethical, safe, and compliant prescribing practices in line with controlled drugs regulations and GMC standards.
Benefits
- Competitive hourly rate with flexible working arrangements.
- Fully remote role with the option to conduct in-person clinics in the future if desired.
- Access to specialist training and CPD in medical cannabis prescribing.
- Opportunity to contribute to a rapidly scaling healthcare organisation with a significant market expansion plan.
- Potential for career growth, leadership roles, and clinical influence as the clinic develops.
